GAMA Retail Division Votes for Change in Election Rules
The GAMA Retail Division voted earlier this year to change their Election Guidelines to allow GRD members not attending the GAMA Trade Show (April 14-17, 2009, at Bally’s in Las Vegas) to participate in the election of Board Members. Part of the business of the new Board elected this year at GTS will include formalizing the system the GRD uses for that process, but we wanted to make sure that the mandate from the membership was not ignored for this year’s elections.
With the understanding that this year’s system is a temporary measure meant to address this need in short order, and will be formalized in the coming year for future elections, here’s the system we’re proposing for this year’s GRD Board Member elections.
If you have any questions, please contact Kelli Wallace, GRD Chair, at email@example.com.
GRD BOARD ELECTION VOTING PROCESS FOR 2009
- Announcing candidacy on the Game Industry Network (GIN) — Deadline: April 3, 2009
- Voting via mail before GTS — Deadline: April 10, 2009
- Elections at GRD annual meeting during GTS — April 16, 2009
- Joining the GIN
ANNOUNCING CANDIDACY ON THE GIN — DEADLINE APRIL 3, 2009
Any current GRD member interested in running for a seat on the Board may make their intentions known in the GAMA folder on the Game Industry Network. They should post a brief biography/resume, their goals in serving on the Board, and their ideas for how the GRD can help its members’ businesses. Each post will be its own thread, and other members should feel free to respond with questions to the candidates to help them with their decisions.
The deadline for declaring candidacy on the GIN will be Friday, April 3, 2009.
VOTING BY MAIL BEFORE GTS — BALLOTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY APRIL 10, 2009
In lieu of a more formal system to be enacted for next year, for the current year any GRD Member in good standing whose dues are current may participate in the election by mailing their votes.
The ballot should be a piece of paper with the names of THREE candidates in numerical order of preference (to allow for instant run-off in the event of a tie) like this:
1. <candidate 1>
2. <candidate 2>
3. <candidate 3>
Write-in votes for currently undeclared candidates are allowed, but will be discarded without being counted if those candidates decline nomination.
Place that paper inside a standard envelope marked ‘GRD ELECTION 2009’, then place THAT envelope inside a larger envelope that contains their store information so that we can verify their vote has been received.
Send your vote in via a TRACKABLE means of shipping (USPS Priority, UPS, etc.) to:
280 N. High Street, Suite 230
Columbus, OH 43215
Mail-in votes must be RECEIVED by FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2009, to be eligible. Ballots received after that date will not be counted. The mail-in votes will be kept sealed until the GRD Annual Meeting.
ELECTIONS AT GRD ANNUAL MEETING — APRIL 16, 2009
Elections will be held as usual at the GRD’s annual meeting at the GAMA Trade Show, on Thursday, April 16, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Bronze 3 room.
Any member present may also declare their intention to run for a seat on the Board, even if they did not do so earlier on the GIN.
Following the comment/introduction period by the candidates present, the current Secretary of the GRD or a present member selected by the candidate as a representative will read the statement posted by the candidate on the GIN to familiarize all present voting members with their biography and platform.
The election will take place by secret ballot at the meeting. The mail-in votes will be unsealed and counted along with the secret ballots cast at the meeting. Votes cast by mail and in person at GTS shall be weighed equally in the event of any ties.
