Brian Thomsen passes away

Brian M. Thomsen, former director of books and periodicals for TSR, passed away suddenly over the weekend after a heart attack.

He ran the Warner Questar line before coming to TSR and served as a consulting editor for Tor after parting ways with TSR/WotC. In recent years he edited several successful anthologies for various publishers and was the editorial force behind creator-owned novels from many writers who had been part of the TSR stable: Ed Greenwood, J. Robert King, James Ward, Carrie Bebris, Elaine Cunningham, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

As a writer he penned novels and stories for the Forgotten Realms, but was better known for the short fiction he published in various non-franchise anthologies and as co-author of comics legend Julius Schwartz’s autobiography, “Man of Two Worlds.”
